Laurie Blauner

Love Poem with Too Many Distractions

I was ornithologically
yours
 before I knew it
small manufactured bone
 from the body’s revolutions
  whirred
with unresolved feelings
I said nothing
   and still I was in
the wrong place
   time
 for ghostly couples
in flight
  believing life
was never like that

We climbed
   back into ourselves
 adjusted
our breathing
  effacement
  with too many surfaces
abandoned
    our feathery bodies
   where they fell
  widening
my dress filled with birds
  I disappeared
  you understood
turbulence at home
   unprotected
a branch dreaming of leaves
  under a sky
that won’t be the same
  again
