What it swallows is more important
than what’s revealed. On the first night,
the mind said, let a hand graze your face
like a stray bullet. Some parts of the soul
do open like narrative. Others, though.
The others deliberate.

Ruth Baumann holds an MFA from the University of Memphis, and is the former managing editor of The Pinch. This fall, she'll begin her PhD at Florida State University. Her chapbook I’ll Love You Forever & Other Temporary Valentines won the Salt Hill Dead Lake Chapbook Contest. She won an AWP Intro Journals Project Award in 2014. Her poems are published in Colorado Review, Sonora Review, Sycamore Review, and others.
